THE CULMS
Cut and mulch

What's includedBAMBOO IN RUTHERFORD COUNTY
Most of the bamboo calls we get in Rutherford County trace back to golden bamboo (Phyllostachys aurea), generally classified as a running bamboo that was planted as a screen and never stayed where it was put. NC State Extension lists it as an invasive species in North Carolina, and Bugwood's invasive species reference notes that the plant spreads by rhizomes, the underground stems that keep sending up new culms long after the visible stand looks handled.
Cutting bamboo down once looks good for a season. The rhizomes left in the ground do not care how clean the cut was, and they keep pushing new shoots the following spring, which is why a single mowing or cutting pass so rarely ends the problem. Removal that lasts means cutting and mulching the culms, treating the rhizome system, and coming back more than once while new shoots are still finding their way up.
Rutherfordton is home base for Brush Masters, with the crew regularly out across Polk, Cleveland, McDowell and Henderson counties and into the Spartanburg side of South Carolina as well. Every bamboo job gets a fixed written number for the first visit. Return visits to cut new shoots are quoted separately as a maintenance plan, and we recommend them for bamboo.
Sources: NC State Extension Plant Toolbox: Phyllostachys aurea (golden bamboo); Bugwood invasive.org: golden bamboo (Phyllostachys aurea). These sources describe the plant and the region; they do not scope or price an individual property.
Acreage, how far the rhizomes have already traveled, access for the machine, how dense the stand is, and what the ground is going to be used for afterward. A narrow planted screen along a fence line and a quarter acre of running bamboo that has already crossed into a neighbor's yard are different jobs with different numbers, but both come as a fixed written first-visit price before we start; the repeated shoot cutting it takes to wear the rhizomes down over a season or two is recommended and quoted separately as a maintenance plan.

THE CULMS
Forestry mulching takes the culms and the brush growing up around them down to a mulch layer in one pass. Nothing is hauled, nothing is burned.
THE RHIZOMES
Bamboo regrows from rhizomes running underground from every culm. We treat them so new growth is a handful of shoots, not a new stand.
THE MAINTENANCE PLAN
We recommend coming back through the growing season to cut what resprouts. Those return visits are quoted separately as a maintenance plan, and you see the price before anything is scheduled.

THE FROM $1,500 PRICE
Land clearing from $1,500. Sounds crazy? It's not. It depends on acreage and location.
The $1,500 starting price covers the first visit: cutting and mulching the growth and treating the rhizomes on a small, accessible area, such as a planted screen that escaped its bed. Bigger stands, tighter access near a foundation or driveway, and rhizomes that have already spread move the number up, and you see that number in writing before we schedule anything.
Our promise: a fixed written price before we start. No day rates. Nonstandard access or extra follow-up work is quoted before anything is scheduled.
Bamboo regrows from rhizomes left in the ground. Mulching alone is not removal, which is why we recommend return visits. Return visits for regrowth are quoted separately as a maintenance plan, and you see that price in writing before anything is scheduled.
HOW IT WORKS
Call, text or send the form with the property location and roughly how far the bamboo has spread. Photos help.
We look at access, how far the rhizomes reach and how dense the stand is, then send a fixed written price. No day rates.
Culms are mulched in place and rhizomes are treated on the first visit. We recommend coming back through the growing season to cut new shoots, quoted separately as a maintenance plan.

Some of it will try. Bamboo regrows from rhizomes underground, so cutting the culms alone is a haircut, not a removal. That is why we treat the rhizomes on the first visit and recommend return visits to cut new shoots as they come up. Those return visits are quoted separately as a maintenance plan, not part of the $1,500 starting price. Read the maintenance plan for what year one and year two look like.
Yes. On properties where bamboo sits close to a property line, a fence or a structure, we can install a below-grade rhizome barrier to keep new rhizomes from crossing into ground you have already cleared. It is priced separately from cutting and treatment and is not needed on every job; we tell you honestly whether your property would benefit from one.
Golden bamboo, generally classified as a running type, does not stop at a property line, so bamboo crossing over from a neighbor's planting will keep sending rhizomes back onto your side even after we clear it. We can only work the property you have the right to clear, so a shared boundary problem usually needs a conversation with the neighbor, and a rhizome barrier along the line is often the most practical long-term fix.
It can. Rhizomes and shoots do not stop for a concrete edge, and a rhizome running under a driveway or along a foundation footing can lift or crack a thin edge over time. Bamboo growing tight against a foundation or through a crawl space vent gets cleared by hand rather than by machine, and we flag that kind of job as nonstandard before we quote it.
We cut and mulch year-round. Cutting when culms are dormant is easier on the ground, and growing season is when a shoot-cutting return visit does the most good, when new shoots are actually coming up and easiest to catch. Most properties get a first pass whenever you call, and we recommend return visits timed to the following growing season, quoted separately as a maintenance plan.
